Learn more about me…

Kyla Cassandra Cortez is a writer and editor with experience in covering news, culture, and human-interest stories that she hopes can make some sort of impact to readers.

For almost three years, she worked at the University of Toronto’s student newspaper, The Varsity, and finished her time as the Managing Editor, External for the 2024-2025 school year.

Her bylines — whether it be about protest and encampment coverage, TIFF movie reviews, or her personal experiences — can be found at The Varsity, CBC, and more. She promises there will be more.

When she is not writing or editing, she is currently reading Guenther Steiner’s Unfiltered, watching a Formula 1 race on her television or mobile phone, or looking for new food spots to try based on TikTok recommendations.

She’s probably active right now, so feel free to email her or read more of her work if you have any questions! She’d be happy to entertain them.
